Marina Beira-Mar North of Florianópolis and its Urban Project

Marina Beira-Mar Norte de Florianópolis e seu Projeto Urbano: Aprovado em 2022 na Câmara de Vereadores de Florianópolis.

The project is signed by ARK7 Architects and aims to restore the City's relationship with the Sea. Expand leisure options in the city's most densely populated region. So that, in this way, it can generate jobs and opportunities with new businesses to be implemented, favoring the nautical development of the Municipality. Furthermore, promote the integration of transport modes, such as future BRT and maritime transport, to increase tourism. In addition to meeting the pent-up demand for this type of equipment, which currently does not exist in the city, strengthening existing economic activities in the surrounding area. For example, commercial, educational, hotel, service and gastronomy establishments. Thus, increasing the quality of life of those who live there and a prospect of increasing the value of the properties that permeate the surrounding area.

The area will feature a public urban park, with space for events. It also has vehicle parking, kiosks, leisure area and space for sports involving the sea.

There will be integration of modes, as the marina part will house wet spaces intended for public use. In this way, with a part designated for a future nautical transport facility, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) will be implemented on Avenida Beira Mar Norte.

The Urban Park and Marina Beira-mar project includes a public and private marina for boats measuring 40, 60 and 120 feet, space for fishing and walking, a market and an outdoor gym. It also has shops, restaurants, courts, picnic park, sailing school, skate and skating rink. Also nearby are multi-sports courts, Olympic-standard skate parks, lanes for rowing competitions, facilities for fishermen. In addition, space for watching the sunset, pet space, playground, giant swing, restaurants, kiosks and even beach clubs. 

The Project dates back to 2016, and the City Hall sanctioned the release of the space on the north seafront that goes from Praça Portugal to Praça do Sesquicentenário, in 2018.

“I have no doubt that the 2,100 families who will be employed here will remember that an army of people dedicated themselves to making this a reality,” said Mayor Gean Loureiro.

Visiting similar projects around the world, the mayor visited the Auckland marina, in New Zealand.

“They said that the economic boost was directed at a radius of 45 km. It influenced everything around it. It’s imagining that we will have a boost for the entire city”, highlighted Gean.

In the Tourism Secretary's view, the venture will bring a new face to the city, in addition to jobs and taxes. Regarding commercial exploitation, he highlighted that it is a private 100% project, with no public money involved in construction and management.
